Reps Launches Peoples Open Week in Abuja

The House of Representatives has launched the 2025 People’s House Open Week, themed “Deepening Citizens’ Trust and Participation: Celebrating the House’s Journey as the People’s House.” Since the 10th National Assembly was inaugurated on June 13, 2023, the House has passed 339 bills at Third Reading, the highest by any Assembly since 1999 within a similar period. Of these, 186 bills were passed, and 51 have been signed into law, the highest number of presidential assents in a president’s first two years.
Within the same period, the House considered 1,100 motions, with 405 (36.8%) classified as Matters of Urgent Public Importance, showing members’ commitment to addressing citizens’ needs.The National Assembly has also supported national security efforts. In the 2025 budget, N6.11 trillion (11.1% of the budget) was allocated to security, the highest in Nigeria’s history.
Additionally, several key bills have been passed, including the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria Act, 2023, the revised Cybercrimes (Prohibition and Prevention) Act, 2024, and the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons Act, 2024, aimed at strengthening security operations and reducing illegal arms circulation.
