Reps Reaffirm Commitment to Addressing-Food Insecurity, Climate Change

The House of Representatives has reaffirmed its commitment to addressing food insecurity, malnutrition, climate change, and insecurity in Nigeria. Chairman of the House Committee on Nutrition and Food Security, Hon Chike Okafor, announced this while unveiling a three-day national summit on nutrition and food security in Abuja.

Okafor noted that despite existing policies, malnutrition and hunger remain high, worsened by insecurity in farming areas, climate change, inflation, and poor infrastructure. He said the summit would bring together lawmakers, government officials, security chiefs, development partners, and private sector players to align strategies and financing for food security and nutrition.

Okafor emphasized that security agencies must address the growing threat to farmers’ safety, adding that no food security conversation is complete without tackling insecurity.
